Recommendation for Laptop Computers

If you currently own a laptop, we recommend that it has the following minimum specifications to meet current software and network demands: Pentium 4 processor, 256MB of RAM (512 MB recommended), Windows XP or higher, and 20 GB hard drive.

If you do not currently own a laptop, we recommend the following minimum specifications for new laptop purchases to meet current and future software and network demands: dual core processor, 512 MB (1 GB recommended), wireless card (802.11b), Windows XP, 60 GB hard drive.

We also recommend students have Internet access through either a dial-up connection, broadband connection, or though the SIU School of Law network. The Law School offers students Internet connectivity through both its wireless and wired Ethernet networks. The wireless network is available throughout the entire Lesar Law Building, and 11 wired Ethernet connections are available in the Law Library and the student lounges. While a limited number of network adapters for both networks are available for checkout at the Law Library Circulation Desk. We recommend students purchase an 802.11b wireless adapter if they are interested in using the School of Law network.
