Helping migrant farm workers in Southern Illinois
3L Alex Enyart
Alex Enyart is spending the 2012 Summer as a Downstate Intern for the Illinois Migrant Legal Assistance Project. Alex’s service area extends from Calhoun County on the Mississippi River, East to Crawford County on the Indiana Border and all the way South to Cairo. The area encompasses the southern third of Illinois.
“It is an honor to be able to spend my summer helping some of the most vulnerable and economically disadvantaged persons in our region. This experience has truly opened my eyes to the world of seasonal and migrant agricultural workers in the United States, a world few ever see. Without the many opportunities I had to gain practical legal knowledge through the Immigration Detention Project and other volunteer legal aid opportunities through SIU School of Law, I doubt I would have the practical legal experience and knowledge necessary for this position."
