Biography

Professor Candle Wester-Mittan joined the Southern Illinois School of Law Library as Access Services Librarian in December 2006. She received a B.S. degree in business administration from Nebraska Wesleyan University, a J.D. degree from the University of Nebraska, and an M.S.L.I.S. degree from the University of Illinois. While at the University of Nebraska, Professor Wester-Mittan worked as a research assistant for Professor Richard Leiter on his book National Survey of State Laws (5th edition) and Professors William Lyons and John Gradwohl on their article “Constitutional and Other Issues in the Application of the Nebraska Uniform Trust Code to Preexisting Trusts,” 82 Nebraska Law Review 312 (2003). She worked as a research consultant for Dr. James Palmer of Illinois State University and a research assistant for the Institutional Review Board of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Additionally, while working toward her master’s degree at UIUC, Professor Wester-Mittan held graduate assistantships with the Main Library Reference Department and the Illinois Fire Service Institute Library.

Since 2004, Professor Wester-Mittan has been a member of the American Association of Law Libraries, a law librarian organization formed in 1906 and now comprised of more than 5000 members nationwide. She is also a member of the Alpha Chapter of Beta Phi Mu, an international library and information science honor society, which was established at the Graduate School of Library Science, University of Illinois, in 1948.
