Duties:
 The National Breast Cancer Coalition seeks a full-time Director of Government Relations and Public Policy for the Government Relations Department. The National Breast Cancer Coalition is a grassroots advocacy organization, with hundreds of member organizations and tens of thousands of individuals dedicated to ending breast cancer through the power of action and advocacy. The Coalition’s main goals are to increase federal funding for breast cancer research; improve access to high-quality health care and breast cancer clinical trials for all women; and expand the influence of breast cancer advocates wherever breast cancer decisions are made. The Government Relations Department works closely with NBCC’s grassroots advocates to develop and pursue the legislative and public policy priorities for the organization. Reporting to the President, the Director of Government Relations & Public Policy works with a small team of staff and consultants in the Field & Government Relations departments to activate and engage breast cancer advocates and to advance the goals of the Coalition. The Director of Government Relations and Public Policy is responsible for the development of government relations & public policy initiatives, oversight of all activities associated with monitoring and analyzing federal and state legislation relating to NBCC’s agenda, and the administrative function of the Government Relations Department. Duties include developing political strategies to turn programs into viable federal and state policy; directing lobbying efforts; working with NBCC’s grassroots network, participating in and helping develop for advocacy training programs, and preparing testimony and position papers.

Required Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s degree in public policy or related field required; law or relevant graduate degree preferred. Extensive management experience with a minimum of 10 years government relations and public policy experience including tenure on Capitol Hill required. Must have in depth understanding of healthcare public policy and women’s healthcare issues. Familiarity with breast cancer issues preferred. Excellent research and oral/written communication skills required. Ability to work under tight deadlines and juggle multiple priorities is essential. Candidate must be detail oriented and possess strong organizational skills. Proven ability to mentor and foster collaborations among staff and organizational membership required.
