Applications are now being accepted for the SIU School of Law Master of Laws programs.
The Master of Laws (LL.M.)
degree is recognized in legal education as the first advanced
degree beyond the Juris Doctor. The SIU School of Law offers the
LL.M. degree in two forms, one a general LL.M. providing a
customized specialization, and the other a highly specialized
LL.M. in Health Law and Policy. Both programs involve the
completion of at least 24 semester hours of credit in law
courses. The specific curriculum is developed with and approved
by the Director of Graduate Legal Studies. Of these 24 hours, at
least 3 semester hours must be earned in producing a substantial
research paper of publishable quality. Students enrolled in the
Health Law & Policy option are required to complete at least 12
of the required 24 hours in specialized health law and policy
classes and to participate in two externship placements. The
Health Law & Policy LL.M. requires prior experience in the
health field. The admissions policy for both programs is very
selective.
Both LL.M. programs have been approved by the Illinois Board of
Higher Education, and have received the acquiescence of the
American Bar Association. Students admitted to the programs may
begin during the Fall, Spring or Summer terms, and may
participate in the programs on a full-time or part-time basis.
Financial aid is available solely through the SIU Office of
Financial Aid. Tuition rates are the same as for the SIU School
of Law.
