Clinical Opportunities

Elderly Clinic

The Elderly Clinic provides free legal service to persons 60 and over who live in 13 counties around Carbondale. Typical cases within the Elderly Clinic include drafting simple wills, drafting powers of attorney for health care and property, and representing clients in guardianship proceedings.

Domestic Violence Clinic

Students in the Domestic Violence Clinic represent victims of domestic violence from Jackson, Williamson, and Union counties in southern Illinois. In a typical case, the student interviews the victim, conducts research, prepares for trial, and represents the victim in obtaining a court order of protection.

Public Externship Clinic

Students in the Externship Clinic work in city, state, federal, or non-profit law offices, or as law clerks for state or federal judges. Students can complete their externships during the fall, spring, or summer of their third year of study. In addition to receiving valuable work experience, students can receive up to six hours of academic credit.
