Faculty Position: Director of Clinical and Experiential Education
Southern Illinois University School of Law seeks to hire an Assistant, Associate, or full Professor of Law to serve as its first Director of Clinical and Experiential Education.
Title & Rank: Assistant, Associate, or full Professor of Law.
Duties & Responsibilities: The Director of Clinical and Experiential Education is a new, full time position at the Southern Illinois University School of Law. Experiential education integrates theory and practice by combining academic inquiry with designed, managed and guided lawyering experiences. At the School of Law, we seek to more fully integrate experiential education into the curriculum, and we seek to fill the position of Director to facilitate those efforts.
More specifically, the Director of Clinical and Experiential Education will have the following responsibilities:

Assist the faculty in meeting its goal of incorporating experiential education more fully into the curriculum. |
2. |
Direct and teach in a live client clinical program and supervise the other clinical programs while broadly delegating authority and responsibility to the faculty members involved. |
3. |
Identify and pursue opportunities to fund experiential education efforts. |
4. |
Work with the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs to develop and administer pro bono programs. |
5. |
Develop and implement a clinical education pedagogy and work with clinic faculty to enhance educational opportunities in the clinic. |
6. |
Supervise the day-to-day operations of the clinic and the clinic faculty and staff. |
7. |
The Director will be assigned by the Dean to teach classes in the general curriculum. |
8. |
As a tenure-track or tenured faculty member, the Director will develop and maintain a scholarly agenda commensurate with rank and experience. |
9. |
The Director will be expected to perform service to the law school, to the university, to the community, and to the profession. |
In addition to these responsibilities, the Director will be expected to work with other faculty and staff to further develop internship opportunities for the Public Interest Extern Clinic, and coordinate other extern clinic activities including those that are a part of the semester away programs, and to work with the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs in developing and administering a pro bono program.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must possess: (1) a Juris Doctor degree or its equivalent from an ABA accredited law school; (2) an impressive law school academic record; (3) experience in clinical or experiential education, and (4) the potential to produce high quality scholarship; (5) eligibility to be admitted to practice in Illinois. To be eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level, the candidate must have prior law school teaching experience and an established record of scholarship and contributions to the profession. Associate Professor candidates should be able to meet the requirements for tenure on the faculty of the School of Law, and Professor candidates should be able to meet the requirements for tenure and promotion to full Professor.
Preferred Qualifications: Law teaching experience, experience overseeing clinical or experiential education activities, an established scholarship record, practice experience, or combinations thereof.
